But aside from women, Solomon gave up all other worldly pleasures – including his favorite one, which was horses and horse-racing – for the sake of God. Solomon gave up all other pleasures aside from women for the sake of God, as long as God promised to him that no one would ever have an empire like his. And it is a promise which God has kept to this day. God vows to keep his promises to his friends. And of course, Solomon was a friend of God. There are “the elect” on one hand and everyone else on the other hand. This is perhaps the secret of all mystical secrets.
