Sixth Note to “The Decline of Liberalism”

Nevertheless, and regardless of whether our open and independent mind is finally replaced with Cold War or NATO intellectualism by the ‘deep state’ or not, the fact of the matter is that complete isolation and withdrawal from international society was and is never an option. If we left a vacuum or void in international society through complete isolation and withdrawal, someone evil and nefarious would have filled that vacuum or void in our absence. As John Adams said: “Bad men increase in knowledge as fast as good men, and science, art, taste, sense and letters are employed for the purposes of injustice and tyranny, as well as those of law and liberty; for corruption as well as for virtue.”
