The whole point was to not leave a vacuum or void in international society through complete isolation and withdrawal, all while considering and recognizing that it was all a futile and pointless effort at knowing the unknowable. All we could really gain out of the whole effort or endeavor was knowing ourselves a little better than before, even while the reality around us remained largely incomprehensible.
