Nor is it merely a matter of preference and taste. It is a moral and ethical question as well: Does one conscientiously side with a foreign occupier and oppressor? Or does one conscientiously side with those who resist and struggle against foreign occupation and oppression? Also, what are the appearances and optics of foreign occupation and oppression? How does foreign occupation and oppression look to the rest of the world? The manner in which both sides – namely, the foreign occupiers and the local guerrillas – frame and present goals and objectives to the world matters as well, given that global public opinion and the global masses are the ones who will decide whether the momentum and support goes to one side or the other. All of these questions complicate the political and social aspects or dimensions of conflict and war. What will international society and the social world at-large make of all of this?
