Fifth Note to “American Grand Strategy”

Aristotle famously said: “He who is unable to live in society, or who has no need because he is sufficient for himself, must be either a beast or a god. Nature does nothing without purpose or uselessly.”

Another version of Aristotle’s quote is: “Whosoever is delighted in solitude, is either a wild beast or a god.”

Simply put, America cannot become a cruel, antisocial cocoon that has withdrawn from the world and does nothing except abuse minorities all day long. There is more to America than just that. It’s only common sense and obvious.
