In a normal world and in a normal situation, the test of “alacrity” and the games on the part of the beloved should not evoke the kind of pain and reaction that it evokes. That is all protocol on her part. It is totally normal on her part. But given that subconsciously and unconsciously it evokes and stirs the memories and the trauma of a love that was lost, it leads to the pain and the reaction that the beloved gets. The beloved didn’t know, of course. The beloved is unaware of it. But now she knows and she’s aware.
