Third Note to “Laila (Part Three)”

Moreover, the natural or visceral reaction or response to a corrupt and failing order like the American order is either religious or sexual, and then it becomes a matter of which force – religion or sex – is the more powerful force in the world. And if it weren’t for desire, there would be no need for capital either, given that desire is “immanent” to capital. But if one were to bet or make an educated guess, sex is more powerful as a social force than religion. Also, by deeming sex as a more powerful force in the world than religion, we overcome the contradiction that exists between religion and sex. How do you reconcile religion with sex? This question overrides and supersedes all other questions. Desire cannot be eliminated – it can only be repressed or sublimated – yet, religion seeks the elimination of desire as its primary aim and goal. Thus, the foremost challenge both from an intellectual and practical standpoint and viewpoint becomes one of reconciling religion with sex, and we reconcile the fundamental and innate contradiction between religion and sex by deeming sex as a far more powerful force in the world than religion and all the evils that come with religion.
