But in terms of the kidnapping and its legality and whether a foreign leader can even be tried in a domestic American court, is it really the desperation for Venezuela’s oil which is at the heart of it all? Or is it merely a distraction from all the failures of this administration? Can the focus on the kidnapping be maintained long enough to distract away from what is essentially the failure of this administration? Come budget shutdown time, one can hardly expect that the focus can be maintained on the kidnapping and away from what is essentially the failure of the system and the question of whether the failure of the system will translate into either socialism or further chaos.
