Yellow Fever

Some of the anecdotes over the course of just the last two decades – let alone the last few centuries – to demonstrate the fact that the West is mired in corruption and conflict until the end of time are the policy of American global hegemony which was developed and executed under a guise and a false pretext, the 2008 global financial crisis, Brexit, Trump, January 6th, and now Ukraine. The fact that the West is mired in corruption and conflict until the end of time served as the basic assumption, premise, hypothesis, or thesis of my book, titled “Is the West in Decline? A Study of ‘World Order’ and U.S. ‘Relative Decline,’” which I published in January 2018. Thus, this basic assumption, hypothesis, premise, or thesis – namely, that the West is mired in corruption and conflict until the end of time – inspired 309 or 310 pages for my book, and has now inspired 422 posts for my blog. Furthermore, this basic assumption, premise, hypothesis, or thesis has sparked a discourse that prompted my book and blog, and it is a discourse that does not dry up or end.

Moreover, for individuals and groups who are craving or pursuing “acknowledgment” or “recognition” from Brussels or Washington, there can be no rational or sensible cause for such a craving and pursuit other than money, given that the dollar is the world’s reserve currency. There is no rational basis in craving or pursuing “acknowledgment” and “recognition” from entities and individuals who are mired in corruption and conflict until the end of time, and who are lacking inner peace. Moreover, individuals and groups like the Taliban and North Korea have ended up surviving without “acknowledgment” or “recognition” from Brussels and Washington. Iran also managed to survive without “acknowledgement” or “recognition” from Washington for decades.

As a result, no one really cares for “acknowledgement” or “recognition” from Brussels and Washington. What people want is Brussels’ and Washington’s money, and people are willing to live without “acknowledgement” or “recognition” from Brussels and Washington as long as their physical security and livelihoods are not interrupted and undermined. Thus, by encroaching on people’s physical security and people’s livelihoods – as evinced by Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya – Brussels and Washington compel individuals and entities to seek “acknowledgement” and “recognition” from them, even though there is no desire or rational basis to seek “acknowledgment” and “recognition” from Brussels and Washington.

But with the rise of China over the course of the last few decades, the power to compel individuals and groups to seek “acknowledgment” and “recognition” on the part of Brussels and Washington has diminished to a significant degree. In addition to growing ‘hard power,’ Beijing also has authenticity when it comes to culture, food, history, art, and women, whereas Brussels and Washington lack these authentic sinews of ‘soft power.’ Thus, the dynamics of the international system have gotten quite complex over the last couple of decades. Things are not as simplistic as they were during the time of America’s “unipolar moment” at the end of the 20th century and at the beginning of the 21st century. Russia’s pressure campaign on Ukraine is an illustration of the complexity of the global strategic context. In turn, the basis for arrogance and hubris – which coincide with ignorance and myopia – is beginning to erode and slip through Brussels’ and Washington’s fingers. As a result, the offsetting of ignorance and myopia through reality and truth is an ongoing process that will take time to bear fruit.
